The Olive Tree

This work was painted in three separate moments, one on location in the grove below and to the South west of Gaucin, both of us squeezed into the Olives shade on a hot July afternoon, a second when I re-read Pablo Neruda's Ode to the Olive Tree.
In the grain fields, of the waves of wind, in the oat stalks
The Olive Tree
with its silver -coloured mass
severe in its lines
in its twisted heart..
..Where alone the blue sky with cicadas
And the hard earth exist
there the prodigy
a third when I sat painting outside today on a calm, very hot August under the shade of the brolly, listening to Bocchini on the ipod,
