Pochade:- Brindle Lancashire Winter's lane 28 x 20 cBrindle Wintery Lane

Winters day High Cop Farm, Brindle Oil on Board 20 x 30 cm

Freezing cold day, had to keep getting back and into the car to warm up despite the buffalo gear brrrrrrrr
paint was very hard to push and pull, met some very straggly sheep and an even more straggly shepherd. This was his house I think, he pushed in front of me to examine the painting and  he was rather verbose in his liking. Couldn't wait to get it painted and away to some warmth brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. May call back much later some time I hope and if its his place he can have the painting as a eulogy of his and my time this day.

Pochade Redmonds Edge Pochade Oil on board

Redmonds Edge Pochade
oil on board

This painting was ripped out of me. Cold with a very cold wind, had to stay near the car and get in to it to warm up now and then; but I  loved this place to bits, you can't see it in the work but I'm painting in a small copse of beech with some oak, for shelter: looking over the moor to Redmonds. Around me the wind pushed and pulled and the crows vocal in their displeasure, Evocative atmosphere, loving my pochade but hating the cold had to work quickly first with a brush but it was to cold and soon started pushing and pulling congealing  paint around  with a small palate knife. Thinking as I painted Wendy asked me to bring in some more small works so this and the others are it, maybe not I like this one, its a poem.

Dovedale Path A painting by Rob Miller RSA

A path through autumn woods, Dovedale, Hartsop
oil and acrylic on canvas 50 x50 cm

"In the blue of sleep a fire begins, mountains dreaming, lovers" Seedtime Jaccottet

Back in the studio for the day completed this work in oils, the blues and browns in Windsor artist quality gave me the mix of colour that I had been unable to achieve with the more limited acrylics, also the brush marks are more fluid and appear to me to be .less contrived.

View up Turton heights  Lancashire, oil on paper 28 x20 cm

A very cold day to be out, even in my Buffalo jacket it felt cold especially when the northerly wind blew and the snow showers squalled. I was glad that I didn't venture far from the road and the car which blasted out a nice warm wave of heat  when I finally decided that it had snowed enough or I had, had enough
